Impruneta, the sleepy beige-colored center of the local terracotta industry, is also home to a raucous October wine festival, which sees the town’s main square covered with a gargantuan wine barrel (unfortunately empty). Inside the terracotta-decorated Basilica di Santa Maria (daily, 9:30-11:30 am, 3:30-7 pm), which overlooks the square, two chapels attributed to Michelozzo house more terracotta decorations by Luca della Robbia, while the attached museum guards the miraculous image of the Madonna that prompted the 11th-century construction of church in the first place.
